Re:Tips for Long Flights at 20 Weeks
Assuming that you haven’t had any complications and that your pregnancy is not high-risk, this should be a fun trip for you! This is a great time for a trip – you’ve got your energy back after that long first trimester but you’re not too big yet to be very uncomfortable. I went on a girls’ weekend to New York City at about 19 weeks of my last pregnancy (with twins!). It was great!
Talk to your doctor about his or her recommendations – but there shouldn’t be any or many restrictions. Consider getting a seat near the front of the plane – the air circulation is better up there and it’s easy on/easy off. There’s also usually a bathroom in the front which will be easy to access if you’re already feeling bladder pressure. Use a pillow or pillows to make your back and legs comfortable. Move your legs around, prop them up and take a few walks up and down the aisle to keep your legs and ankles from swelling. Think about wearing slippers or flip-flops if you think your feet might swell.
Make sure you eat something and keep hydrated too.
