Re:Do Twins Automatically Mean C-Section?
Not necessarily. Your chances have gone up – but lots and lots of mothers have twins by vaginal delivery. It all depends on their positions in utero. While you can sometimes manipulate a singleton in utero to change his position, it’s almost impossible for twins. By the third trimester, there’s just not a lot of room in there to maneuver.
The first thing that will need to go right is Baby A (the baby closest to your cervix) needs to have is head down. If he does that and wants to be born that way, he’ll open up a little bit of room for Baby B to turn around (or be manually turned around) if he needs to.
My suggestion, from experience, is to keep your expectations realistic. You may have had your heart set on a natural birth. If the circumstances dictate that a c-section is necessary to get your babies safely out, then don’t sweat it. Be prepared to do whatever is best for those babies. Understand that there is always a Plan B and we’re not necessarily in control (the babies are!).
