Default Ski trip in the first trimester

I am 8 weeks pregnant. Now my husband and I got a chance to visit friends of ours in Colorado. They have a house in the mountains and it would be a great opportunity to go skiing. I know skiing is not recommended while pregnant but I wonder if it is okay to do so early in the pregnancy as the baby is still so small? I should mention that I am a very good skier!

Default Re:Ski trip in the first trimester

Skiing in the first trimester as long as there is no obvious risk of miscarriage is essentially safe. You just may want to avoid unnecessary risks such as slaloms with trees or jumps. The fetus is tucked into the pelvis and behind the pelvic bone so even if you fell, it would not be injured. Once you reach 12 weeks gestation, however, the fetus has risen out of the pelvis and is in danger of injury should you fall skiing. Ski responsibly and everything should be fine. This is true in about any kind of sport you should engage in during the first trimester.
