Default Holding my breath under water while swimming

I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and love to swim. Is holding my breath underwater in the pool bad for me or the baby?

Swimming is an excellent activity during pregnancy because it is light on the body and it doesn’t stress the uterus or muscles in any way. You can swim throughout the pregnancy and even take swimming aerobic classes. When you swim, you may hold your breath underwater for a minute or two and not suffer any ill effects, whether or not you are pregnant.

The fetus lives off the oxygen in your blood which is not severely depleted when you hold your breath under any circumstances. It will not affect or harm the fetus in anyway and you can swim to your heart’s content without fear that it will harm the fetus.
