Default Can I Whiten My Teeth While Pregnant?

I noticed that my teeth have a yellow tinge and would like to use one of the at-home teeth whitening kits. Is that okay or would it be better to wait until after baby is born?

I think that most dentists and whitening product manufacturers recommend that pregnant women do not whiten their teeth until after the baby is born. This isn’t because of any definitive evidence of harm to a fetus but simply because the effects on the fetus of the chemicals used is unknown. You can swallow small portions of the chemicals, which will not harm you – but why risk it harming your baby?

I do think that some home whitening kits have no warning for pregnant women and claim that there is no possible harm – Crest has no warning; Colgate does. Is anyone out there a dental professional who can give us any insight?

You shouldn't use them while pregnant. Teeth and gums take a beating while pregnant, it is best to wait until after the baby is born to use. Also, you don't know how it will effect your baby.

Try using a whitening toothpaste while pregnant but avoid the harsher whiteners as they may be harmful to your little one. I wouldn't worry about your teeth too much now anyhow, I'm sure you're just glowing with pregnancy!

Theres a video on spiritube.com about using baking soda and aloe vera gel i believe to naturally whiten teeth, check it out. Chemicals aren't good for you either.

Actually I just checked it out and its lemon juice and aloe vera gel, so now I remember why I didn't want to do that... terrible for enamel, so let me retract that one.

Another natural remedy that I use for toothpaste anyway is baking soda with hydrogen peroxide (and for bad gums, adding some salt and a little myrrh will clear up any gum irritation super quickly). I feel that this is way better than commercial fluoridated toothpaste because, talk about bad for your baby, fluoride is a poison! A tiny amount swallowed twice a day adds up. So thats my suggestion

I asked my doc and while i was with child in 2006-2007, he said no and that if i found a dentist that would do it to report them. Sorry, but this is only the starting line to the mommy body break down process of pregnancy!

Yeah, like Ms Ashley said--I'm sure you are glowing from pregnancy no worries for now!

I know that I have some dental work to get done but the dentist said we are just going to make sure that I am stable and as long as I dont have anything really bad going on, then we wil wait until after the baby is born to do any dental work
