Default Is It Safe to Get Manicures and Pedicures During Pregnancy?

My last pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. This time I do not want to do anything that could possibly endanger the baby. Is there any reason not to have my nails done while pregnant?

There have been no studies which indicate that exposure to the solvents in nail polish and polish remover are harmful to a fetus – although chronic exposure to those things probably isn’t very good for anyone. That being said, a manicure or pedicure every few weeks during your pregnancy is fine. Even acrylic nails are okay because your exposure to the chemicals is really very limited. I lived for my third trimester pedicures! If anything, the smells might bother you if you have a hypersensitivity to odors while pregnant or if you’re battling morning sickness. You can definitely ask for a mask like the nail techs wear and find a clean, well-ventilated salon.

Hi ,
I just posted this comment on a similiar thread " Are Spa Treatments Okay While Pregnant" Although I am a photographer and live in Wa. State, I am also a licensed Nail Technician in Texas, I still keep my license renewed so that I can also get a Wa. License in the future. But when we were in school and trained at pedicure massages, we were told to stay away from massaging the upper back part of the heel (right next to the ankle bone and near to the achilles heel) of a pregnant woman, because it could cause them to go into premature labor, I don't know how much truth there is to that but, I know that some reflexologists say the same thing. So just in case it is true. I wanted you to be aware of that.

Warmest wishes ,

Leticia Wilson

Yes it is safe to get manicures and pedicures, but be careful with the amount of chemicals you inhale. be sure the salon is well ventilated and if possible sit away from chemical use, especially the stuff they use to put nails on. you know, the stuff that stinks so much that some manicurists even wear masks.

It's really an informative post and I really don't know this information about Nail polish and Nail remover.
