While it is true that ice cream contains calcium and can be used as one source of calcium in your diet, only eating ice cream can raise your blood sugars and cause you to gain unnecessary weight.
You need approximately 1000 mg of Calcium per day during pregnancy and one cup of ice cream will only give you 100 mg of that Calcium. Eating ten cups of ice cream per day will certainly make you heavier than you need to be.
Try drinking skim or 2% fat milk, along with fortified orange juice every day. They contain more calcium per serving and you’ll not gain as much weight. Reserve the ice cream for a treat and eat no more than one serving of this frozen Godsend per day. I know, I know, much easier said than done!
