Desperately need advise. I have been coloring my hair since I was sixteen. Now I am expecting my first child and I have heard that coloring hair is a no-no in pregnancy. Can that be true? My husband never even has seen my natural hair color and I would rather he never does.

First, you should ask your doctor or midwife. Some health care providers will okay highlights because the hair color isn't applied to the scalp or very close to the scalp. Often dyes made without ammonia or with only vegetable products will be acceptable too. Other practitioners will tell you to wait until after your first trimester. Very conservative doctors might tell you to wait until after you deliver. So, talk to your colorist to find out more about the products he or sheuses, then talk to your doctor. Good luck!
