Re: How Can I Stop Worrying About Miscarriage?
Having been through that myself, I will guess that nothing will truly assuage those fears until that magic date has come and gone without incident. You can read stories, blogs and all kinds of statistics which indicate that most miscarriages are caused by genetic abnormalities that don’t replicate themselves in the next pregnancy. So, in your brain, you know that this pregnancy will, in all likelihood, be just fine. But, in your heart, you’re still in a constant state of panic. It’s hard sometimes to get that brain and that heart on the same page.
My best recommendation is to talk seriously with your OB about your anxiety. With your history, she may be willing to send you for an early ultrasound. After my first and only miscarriage (at 11 weeks), my doctor ordered a first trimester ultrasound for each successive pregnancy. She cited my history to get the diagnostic covered by insurance. It was never questioned. And that little flickering heartbeat on the screen did wonders to calm my fears.
