Default Terrified of Another Premature Birth

Our first baby was born prematurely at 24 weeks. They tried everything but she was too small to survive. Now we are thinking of trying again. But I am terrified something similar could happen. Is there any way to make sure that I wouldn't give birth so early again? I don't think I could go through this again.

I guess it all depends on why your first pregnancy didn’t reach full term. If it was due to an incompetent cervix, then there are probably a few things that your OB can do to avoid premature labor and birth. Other reasons for pre-term birth are more difficult to address in subsequent pregnancies – but they are also not necessarily bound to occur again either. Preeclampsia, uterine infection and placenta problems might not happen with your next pregnancy. I highly recommend that you talk at length with your doctor about the reasons for your previous premature delivery, the chances it could happen again and what he or she can do to prevent problems in your next pregnancy.
