Default Importance of fitness?

Like everyone else these days I'm busy and am bad about making time for fitness. Just how necessary has this been shown to be for timely conception? I eat healthy and everything but I wonder if I should be doing more...

Hi Rosario!

Moderate exercise, a balanced, nutritious, whole diet and maintaining a healthy body weight are good natural fertility treatments. Excess bodyweight increases the amount of estrogen in the body which can affect menses. Exercise will help to burn off excess bodyweight allowing the body to return to normal estrogen/hormone levels. Low impact exercise is great - walking, swimming, biking, yoga, tai chi etc. High impact over-exercising has been shown to actually inhibit fertility - especially if you're planning an IVF pregnancy.

Basically, if you exercise, keep it up! You will have a healthier pregancy and less risks at birth if you are healthy and in shape. If you don't, maybe try incorporating a walk or something light a few times a week, but don't dive into a strenuous workout regime!

Are you trying to conceive, or already pregnant? That makes a difference as well as your health history and body type. I would direct this question to one of the many experts on this forum!

I think it's more important than ever to keep fit bit it's not just your body that will thank you, your mind needs this time too. If you don't make time for it now, it becomes less and less of a priority and you'll be fighting to get it back. Even if you only get out for one hour on the weekend, you need alone time. You'll never regret it.

I'm not a specialist in this area but I would say you should make time for at least moderate exercise. I always feel better physically and emotionally once I keep to a simple exercise regimen. It's hard, it was very difficult for me in the beginning but the rewards are worth it!

I have been walking a lot with this pregnancy so far and I am just waiting to see the doc to know if I can do the elliptical or not...I just want to stay semi-toned while preggers
