Building A Pregnancy Wardrobe: Some Helpful Tips for Moms-To-Be

If you are thinking about all the things you’ll need to buy in the months before your baby comes, your pregnancy wardobe may be low on your list of priorities. It’s important that you think about yourself, as well as the baby.

You will need certain clothing items and undergarments as your pregnancy progresses, and we’ve put together a helpful list that will assist you in finding what you need, without spending a lot of money. You don’t need a tremendous amount of new things to wear when you are expecting, but there are certain things you can buy that will make pregnancy more comfortable for you. Here is our short list of pregnancy wardobe essentials for moms to be:

Maternity Jeans: These will really stretch your dollar, as they can be dressed up or down to make your outfit appropriate for day or night. You can even pay a seamstress to put a stretch panel in a favorite pair of jeans, so that you still feel like yourself as your shape changes. Maternity jeans are available in some amazingly chic cuts, complete with a variety of finishes and rinses. Your best bet may be a dark denim jean with a very slight flare. The boot cut shape will balance out your pregnant belly and hips, and flatter your thigh and bottom.

Stretchy T-s: A scoop neck or V-neck T-shirt that gently skims your growing belly will become a favorite during pregnancy, and it’s usually inexpensive to buy. Scoop and V-necks are more flattering, as they will gently call attention to your more voluptuous chest, instead of completely covering you up.

A Good Bra That Really Fits: You will never regret spending money on a really good bra during your expectant months. Your breasts will hurt sometimes, and they will get bigger – quite a lot bigger, as pregnancy progresses. You might want to invest in a more supportive bra than you normally wear, with a soft under wire and thicker straps: it can still be pretty. There are many lingerie lines that specialize in bras for full-figured women, and they have satin and lace detailing that is very attractive. Be sure to try on a lot of bras, and move up to the next size when you need to: your clothes will fit better and look better when you are supported properly.

Comfortable Shoes: Now is not the time for Sex and The City stilettos! There will be plenty of time to enjoy high heels after the baby comes: for now, you should think about comfort and stability, as you grow larger. High heels put enormous pressure on the balls of the feet, even for non-pregnant women, so imagine the stress they will place on an expecting woman’s body. They can also be dangerous when you are very pregnant: we all know how easy it is to trip or turn an ankle when we have high heels on. Be safe and consider a stylish mule or even a chic, modern sneaker for casual wear: your body will thank you.
