Welcome to Week 10 of Your Pregnancy!
Your Baby in Week 10 of Pregnancy
-
In week 10 of pregnancy, your baby is probably between 13mm and 17mm in length and will weigh about a gram. A gram is equivalent to two teaspoons of parsley or two small paperclips or one Tic-Tac. That’s small! Your baby can spontaneously move if it wants to, but it doesn’t have a lot of control with coordination or brain signals.

-
Around Week 10 of pregnancy, the elbows arrive and the arm can bend if your baby sends the correct signal from the brain. Chances are it won’t happen yet on command.

-
With the arrival of Week 10 of pregnancy, you officially begin the fetal period. Your baby is now a fetus! It has grown close to an inch long and will weigh about 4 grams. The fetus will appear alien-like, as the eyes are large in comparison to the rest of the body, and the eyelids haven’t closed yet. Soon they will fuse together while the eyes develop and won’t open again until Week 25 or so, at which time they’ll be able to see in the womb.

-
Around Week 10 of pregnancy, the tail has disappeared and your fetus loses the animal-like appearance it’s had thus far. Ears are present on the outside of the head although they can’t hear any sounds yet. The heart is beating strong, already averaging 160 beats per minute!
Your Body in Week 10 of Pregnancy
-
Do you feel the need to put on a pair of maternity pants already at week 10 of pregnancy? If this is pregnancy number two or more, there is a very good chance you are right. The abdomen muscles and uterine ligaments have already been stretched with pregnancy, so they will stretch much quicker this time. Your abdomen may stick out a little if you are very thin and you will already have a baby bump.

-
If this is your first pregnancy, you may still feel the need for larger pants due to bloating and bowel distension. Sounds lovely, right? Well, everything is moving around in there, shifting and growing, so it should come as no surprise if you’re beginning to feel tight in the waist. Elastic waistbands and larger pants will feel much more comfortable that tight ones. And maternity clothes are just fun to wear at this point, especially if you have been trying to get pregnant for a while.

-
Morning sickness has set in for a lot of women and week 10 of pregnancy is no exception! If you have escaped it, you are lucky! If not, it will continue for only a couple more weeks for the majority of sufferers, with only a few having morning sickness past Week 14. Adhere to a regular healthy eating routine to try to fight the waves of nausea and try eating several small meals throughout the day as this may help greatly.

-
It’s still a little early to alert your friends and family to your pregnancy. It is common for women to wait until they pass the first trimester, or week 13, before they tell anyone. Even though it is too early to tell everyone the news, those close to you may notice a change anyway. For instance, if during your weekly Sunday dinner at mom’s house you run and vomit at the smell of bacon, they may suspect something. It will be hard to hide a pregnancy from those who know you well.
