Week 11 of Pregnancy

Jump to Pregnancy Week:

Welcome to Week 11 of Your Pregnancy!

Your Baby in Week 11 of Pregnancy

  • The fetus doesn’t look like an animal with a tail anymore by week 11 of pregnancy. Now it just looks like an alien. The trunk has elongated and the spine is now contained within it. However, the head is still disproportionate to the rest of the body and equals almost half of its entire length. That is good though, as the brain will soon begin its rapid development stage.

  • The brain cells are dividing and growing every day, and this requires a lot of space! That little brain will grow billions and billions of brain cells before it is done. Be sure to eat a proper and balanced diet so that your baby can have the best foundation possible for the growth of healthy brain cells.

  • During week 11 of pregnancy, your baby will hit close to seven grams in weight. They will be between one and a half to two and a half inches long and are approximately the size of a strawberry. The embryo will be curled up with the knees into the chest and the arms will stay tucked in most of the time.

  • Inside your baby’s eye, the iris will begin to form around week 11 of pregnancy. Their eye color has already been determined, but won’t be distinct until several months after they are born.

  • The fingernails are starting to form on the finger buds in week 11 of pregnancy and will be a soft, flexible material until they are a few weeks old. They can still scratch themselves (or even you after birth) so don’t be surprised if they are born with a little scratch.

  • The nose is also starting to form over the face in week 11 of pregnancy, with the cartilage getting stronger and the think skin covering it.

Your Body in Week 11 of Pregnancy

  • Week 11 of pregnancy won’t see any major changes in your body – at least compared to what it has gone through the past ten weeks. Morning sickness may continue, tiredness will be your constant companion, and weight gain will begin. Don’t worry…it’s a good kind of weight gain as you have that little miracle growing inside of you.

  • You may have had a second visit with your doctor by week 11 of pregnancy. If not, you will soon notice that the first thing they’ll do is weigh you. Typically, it is safe to gain a pound or two each month of the first trimester. Most of that weight gain is fluid retention and from the increase in blood volume.

  • If morning sickness has been moderate or severe for you, you may even be down a few pounds. Subtle weight changes are fine and that’s why the doctor monitors it closely. Drastic ups or downs could signal a problem and is why you go to the doctor every month so they can keep an eye on you.

  • You may feel like you have the flu and a bad sinus infection by week 11 of pregnancy – but relax. It’s probably only your hormones, which you are stuck with for several months. They will even out and your body will stabilize, getting rid of the morning sickness. The stuffy nose – you may be stuck with.
